Here, Bethany, aged 10, tells us all about her Puddle Ducks journey...
"Hi I’m Bethany Meakin.
I started swimming when I was 12 weeks old. I joined Puddle Ducks when I was 1 years old, Kickers class.
I’ve been at Puddle Ducks for 8 years now and in that time I had lots of teachers. My teachers have been Beck, Nick, Heather, Becky D and Jess (my Mummy). My classes have been at Stoke Rochford, Urban and Choices. I’ve had lots of teachers – Beck, Nick, Heather, Becky D and Jess (my Mummy).
Before I went to school I remember my Mummy used to take us on a family day out to Lincoln. We would have a courtesy class then go to Rand Farm, Jump or Fun Farm. My favourite teacher was Nick so we’d go to see him at Priory.
I love PJ Week. Once I did 4 PJ lessons in one week. Mummy complained about the washing that week. Now I’m a Gold Rookie Lifeguard with the RLSS.
Things I’m proud of…
-
Being a Gold Rookie Lifeguard
-
Coming 1st place in my school swimming gala
-
Next year will be my 6th time swimming in the Grantham Swimathon
-
I love to swim long distance (I’d rather swim than run any day)
-
I can swim 3000m in two hours. And to quote my Mummy ‘And you swam it beautifully!'
My youngest memory at Puddle Ducks is Jelly On A Plate. And for some reason I can always remember lying on a sun lounger. Mummy says that’s when I used to watch my little sister Charlotte swim at Urban with Heather.
Mummy says I've got to stop writing now, I could write for hours. I’ve had so much fun over the years. I’m part of the Puddle Ducks family, even though I’ve completed my Puddle Ducks journey it’s still a big part of my life.
But it’s not the end of my swimming journey…. Shhhh don’t tell anyone, I got into Grantham Swimming Club. I AM SO EXCITED."
Bethany's Dad, Paul said: "My daughter Bethany has recently completed her Swim Academy journey. She joined Puddle Ducks at a very early age and has worked her way all the way through to complete Level 6 in Swim Academy.
Throughout her journey she has earned multiple badges and certificates. More importantly she has learned how to swim beautifully, this is not only a great way to exercise but also a vital skill that could save her life or help to assist her to save someone else.
We are so proud of Bethany for working through all the levels at Swim Academy and improving her ability along the way. This is due to the amazing job that the Swim Academy teachers and staff do. The teachers are brilliant at their jobs, whether it’s explaining the task ahead, keeping a pool full of children calm, demonstrating a stroke or supporting a child one on one they always know exactly what to do.
I would (and do) recommend both Puddle Ducks and Swim Academy to other parents. The customer service is great and you can’t argue with the results, which is that my daughter now swims amazingly and is now looking at a future of competitive swimming."
Thank you Bethany and Paul for your accounts of your time with us - we will miss you and wish you all the best at Grantham Swimming Club!
